This week the Lottie and Dolly, managers in the Green Team organised and led a workshop with children from Reception class and Year 1. They discussed seeds, plants and what they need to germinate and grow. They carefully filled plant pots with compost and then dug two small holes to plant their sunflower seeds and watered their seeds.
Year 6 planted sweet peas led by Megan, Freya and Naomi who watered the fruit trees given to the school by the London Mayors programme ‘Trees for London’ an initiative to plant thousands of new trees over the next two years to reduce pollution.
Year 5 children noticed that seed from last year’s lettuce had self-planted in the Kitchen Garden put up wigwams and planted peas and French beans.
The Green Team asked if we could have prayers in the Prayer Garden each month on first Tuesday followed by a coffee or refreshments organised by the school council.
Community – we would like some parent volunteers to help with lots of chores this term after school. There is a chalk board with jobs in the Infant Playground near the garden shed and parents are welcome to stop by to help with planting or painting with their children on Tuesday or Thursday.
