Did you know, St George isn’t just the patron saint for England? He also holds this position for Aragon, Catalonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, Germany, Greece, Moscow, Istanbul, Genoa and Venice (second to Saint Mark). He died on the 23rd April 303 and was an early Christian Martyr. The myth of the dragon comes from a story Saint George’s encounter narrated in the Golden Legend a collection of 153 hagiographies by Jacobus de Voragine that was widely read in Europe during the Late Middle Ages.
